All the people I met there were really nice and great sportsmanship. Have you ever gone to zones for athletics?

Writing

This week for writing we chose a school journal and wrote about it on a slid then once we finished that we would make a DLO (Digital Learning Object) My story was about the 1918 Influenza pandemic. Here is my DLO: Have you ever learned about the Influenza pandemic.

My Memoir

This term for writing we got to chose a few activities and you had to write a memoir for the end of year prize giving here is mine: There are many subjects and activities that made an impact on me from Saint Francis Of Assisi but the science fair was the one that stood out the most to me it taught me a lot of information about my project, working with others in a certain environment and managing our own time. There were many things that Phoebe and I had to do to get to the end product. First we of course had to do our research otherwise we wouldn't have any information for the base of the project. Phoebe and I were focused most of the time and on task to get what we wanted done. Once we finished all of our research it was time for the experiment. This included going over to each other house to perform the experiment and tallying up the results and honestly me and Phoebe never wanted to eat another marshmallow again. Next was the last stage the presentation, Phoebe

Neonatal Trust

This week for R.E we had to pick a company or person that is helping the world and write about them in our P.B.L groups (my group is Anabelle, Olivia, Claudia and I). The company that I chose was The Neonatal Trust they help and support premature babies by giving them an environment where they can grow up to be a healthy kid. On Thursday this week we will present something explaining what our company/person is and what they do. Here is my groups presentation. Have you ever heard of The Neonatal Trust.

P.B.L Friend-cakes

This term for our P.B.L we chose groups and a country. We had to make something from that country and sell it at a market that our whole school is doing. Here is a poster showing what we do. Here is the second poster that you would see if you scan the QR code on the first poster.

Athletics

Last week on Thursday my school had athletics all the events are: Sprints 60 and 100 meters, long distant, shot put, discus, long jump and high jump. My school did athletics at a park where the zones athletics is held. Everyone had so much fun and everyone tried really hard. I really like athletics because it has a variety of different activities and everyone has a special sport that they love in athletics. I came 1st in 60 meters and 2nd in 100 meters witch means I am going to zones for 60 meters and relays. Do you like athletics?

Creative Writing

Hi and welcome back. This week we have been doing creative writing,  We get given a picture from pobble 365 and have to write a story about it. Here is a sample of my writing: Empty Boots Picking up the boots I find flowers old and brown underneath crumpled up. I step on something hard like rock as I looked down I see a rock with engraving of a name and a date. John Everstain 1964-2018. Must be a gravestone I thought to myself. “Sttttttss” There's something or someone there in the bushes. Emerging from the bushes is a little girl long blond hair with streaks of lighter blond. She carrying flower must be for the grave then. “Hey what are you doing with my dads boots.” She squealed at the top of her lungs hoping I would run and let go of them. “So these are your dad's boots.” I asked “Yes now let them go and put them back where you found them. Your not taking them again this time and now that I’ve caught you I’m taking this to the police.” “Umm hold on there

Shared Lunch

Hi and welcome back to the first blog of term 4. This term is all about different cultures. Today we had a shared lunch but the shared lunch was not normal because a few days before that we picked a country name out of a hat and so we had to bring food in from that country. I picked out the country Wales so we got into groups by finding the people that had the same country as you and we discussed what food we would bring. My group decided to bring in pickets and cheese on toast because pickets came from Wales and cheese on toast was a common meal in Wales. Driving Question:   How do we successfully design, build, market and sell a product, that meets the needs of our cultural diverse community?    Our next project for the term is to get into groups of four and come up with something that meets the need of our cultural diverse community. When our final product is done we are going to do a market day which is on Tuesday the 4 of December. What cultural food have you tried?

Dance Production

Hi welcome back. For this term our P.B.L (Project based learning) is Dance! We split into different groups and at the end of the year we are gong to do a performance in our dance groups. Our groups are based on a Maori story here is a video explaining it:  Maori Creation Introduction For my group we are the God of wild uncultivated plants so far my groups has done 1 dance and is planning the 2nd dance. Our main characters is Ellen and I .For our first dance we start in a line and everyone starts fast walking in a circle around Ellen and I when the beat drops Ellen and I push our arms down and the people around us fall down. Then after that we lift our arms up and raise the others up. After that the people in the circle close in on Ellen and I so Ellen and I run out and do cartwheel across the front and that is our introduction. Here is the music that we are using for our first dance.  Radioactive Instrumental Scene 8 The next dance is the struggle between the brothers bein

Literacy Circles

Hi and welcome back. I have already explained the literacy circle in my Oracle blog but in this blog I am going to explain it further. This term we have tried something called literacy circles there are 6 different roles: Discussion director, Connector, Illustrator, Word Master, Passage picker, and Summariser. So far I have done all of them but Discussion director I am doing that next week, the book we are doing this on is Oracle. My favorite role is Summariser and as soon as it was my turn to do Summariser we finished the book which means I got to summarize the whole book. I wrote 6 slides of summarizing. What literacy circle role would you want to do?

Term 3 Tech

This term for Tech my group have been in woodwork. Our goal by the end of the term was to make a box that can hold our treasures in it but before we started to make them we made some other objects first. At the start of the term we made letter out of wood and made them into a key chain for mine it was of course going to be the letter A. Next we made a notebook holder it was kind of like  box but a bit different and at the end of one side it had holes drilled on the top of it so it could also be a pencil holder.  Now after all that it was time to make the box first we had to draw a 3D image in our books and mark how long and how wide each side was. than we would mark out the measurements on the wood and cut it out. that is where I am up too. Have you ever been in woodwork's?

Teachers Strike

On the 15th of August the primary teachers went on strike which means we have a day off while the teachers protest for more school time and less paperwork. My opinion on the teachers strike are mixed because it isn't fear that teachers have more paperwork and less time with students but the paperwork can also be important. Teachers work non stop and never really have a day off only if they are sick and even than as soon as they get better the start work straight away. Let's hope they get what they protested for. What are your thoughts on the primary teachers strike?

Speeches

This term my class have been working on speeches my speech is about impacting peoples lives. Intro Would you rather make an impact on other people's lives or people making an impact on your life. In reality we are doing both, we are impacted by the people we love such as our family, and friends or even strangers. We learn from these people. Some people don’t realize that when we are communicating with others we are already affecting their lives in either a good or bad way. Everyone in my hub has presented their speech and I am one of a few people that made it to the next round on speeches. Have you presented a speech this year if so what was your topic?

I went in the first group so the writers that I saw was  Fleur Beale, Joanna Grochowicz, and Suzanne  they explained what their books were about and how they came up with the idea. Two classmates from my class got one of their books signed by them. Have you ever been to book awards?

Oracle Book

Welcome back in school my group an I are reading a book called Oracle it is a great book. Why did you choose this book? I chose this book because it captured my interest in how the characters act and what they do in the description Summarise what you have read so far? There is a boy called Nikko and he saves his baby sister Thetis form his dad because his dad did not want Thetis so he was going to feed her to the wolfs. When they were older they went to visit an old hag at that point Thetis could not speak so the hag healed Thetis and she could speak but she could only speak the truth. As the years passed by one of the workers Orkestres of the high king was sent to get the children for the children were amazing at acrobatics and the king wanted them for amusement. Has the book started off how you thought? Why/why not? This book has started off how I thought it would because by the description and cover it gave great detail. I could tell where the book was heading.

A Series Of Unfortunate Events Book Review.

Hi guys and welcome back to the first week of term. Across the end of term 2 and the holidays I have read A Series Of Unfortunate Events there are 13 book in total they are called: The bad beginning, the reptile room, The wide window, The miserable mill, The austere academy, The ersatz elevator, The vile village, The hostile hospital, The carnivorous carnival, The slipper slope, The grim grotto, The penultimate peril, and the last book The end. I would rate this a 4 out of 5 because there was so much effort that went into this series and with an incredible amount of detail in the books. Story Description. (WARNING There will be spoilers in this so if you want to read this series I suggest going some where else.) There are 3 children Violet being the oldest, Klaus the second oldest, and lastly Sunny the young toddler. They lived in a great house with their mother and father, they had a wonderful library so Klaus read A LOT and he was very smart for his age.  Violet was very cr

Digital Project

Hi, guys welcome back. Lately, I have been working on my digital project which is writing a story and presenting it. We also had to write a blurb about what story we chose. Our stories have been based on N.Z. history going from pre 1840s-Now. My story that I have chosen was the Ballantyne's Fire. I have used sketch noting which is where you sketch doodles of your story and take a picture then add it to a slide or doc. Here is my finished product on the story of the Ballantyne's fire.  Have you ever learned about NZ history?

Diana Isaac

A week or two ago I went to Diana Isaac, which is a rest home. I am in Homebase 2 but me and a few of my friends had to go with Homebase 3. Once we got there we went into a big room and we all sat down. In front of us was a housie board and a few counters. In the game someone would call out a number and if you have it on your board you would put a counter over it. If you got a row of 5 you win and the first 3 people who get a row win a small prize. Then we would keep our counters on and now you can only go for a full house which is when you fill up your whole board and again the first 3 people to get a full house get a bigger prize, like a chocolate bar. They were so kind to us helped us if we were stuck and also gave us a big chocolate bar at the end! Have you ever played housie? If so have you ever won anything?

Life Education

Hi guys welcome back today I am going to be talking about Life Education. Life Education is a big truck that comes round different schools to teach the different year levels new things.  My class, the Year 7/8s, were learning about different learning styles and personalities. In the first session we got into groups according to our learning style by giving us a few tests and we would go to a certain space in the room and we did a few puzzles and games along the way. After we found out what each group was she put a different animal for each group. There was : The Beavers, The Otters, The Labradors and The Lions. The Beavers were the smart thinkers. They like working in quiet places, likes to plan and does not like noisy places. The Otters are the quick thinkers they like to have fun and are some times noisy. The Labradors: They are the alert thinkers they are smart and think fast. They are also like a peace keeper in a group of people like the glue of the group. The

Spanish

This term for languages I have been learning Spanish. We have been practicing on a website called Duolingo, you can also get it as a app. Duolingo has many different languages on it to learn and it is really fun. Here is some examples. Yo come manzanas-I eat apples Yo-I Auga-Water Leche-Milk Manzana-Apple El-The Come-Eat Here is a link to Duolingo:  Duolingo I have learnt lots of Spanish from this web site and how to say it to. Have you ever learnt a language before if so what language?

Science

We have started to do our science this is my science. I am doing my science experiment with Phoebe. Science Question: How does the ratio of Gelatin to the other ingredients affect the marshmallow ? Background Research When you add the gelatin to hot water the powder dissolves and you break the bonds that holds the proteins together. When the gelatin cools down the gelatin powder forms new bonds in the water.      Hypothesis The increase of gelatin the stiffer the marshmallow and the decrease of gelatin the crumblier and stickier the marshmallow will be. My next step for science is writing the method and materials. Have you ever done a science experiment?

Caritas Challenge Reflection

Image
Hi and welcome back everyone. Last Friday we did the Caritas Challenge, the Caritas Challenge is when you live 24 hours like the people in Timor-Leste. During the day we did sporty activities/games non stop and we were always moving.  This is me and my friend Anabelle in one of the sessions Dance. Then as the day went on we started building our shelters out of cardboard we built these shelters from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. Around 6:00 we had dinner.  Now was the fun part... at 7:00 when it started to get dark we got our torches out and started playing games in the dark with our torches like: spotlight, hide and seek, go home stay home and more running around. Once we had finished we went back up to the class room and did some reflection time in our books, which is the reflection below. After that we settled down and got ready for bed everyone went to the bathrooms and brushed our teeth then went back to our shelter. We got a little bit of time to chat then at around 9:30 everyone had

Update On Tech

Tech This term I am doing a new subject for tech and that is... fabrics. Fabrics sounds really cool and our goal for this term is to make a pillow case and so far I have made the lining of the pillow case. So far we have learnt how to use a sewing machine and how to do different techniques like: back stitching, pivoting, and turning. I learnt how to thread the machine and how to use it. It is very fun because we get to do any design we want. Have you ever done anything with fabrics before?

We have until December to read the books and get as many pizzas as we can. For the Year 7 & 8s every time we read a book we have to write a book review about the book then get the pizza wheel signed by the teacher. Have you ever done the Hell's Pizza Reading Challenge?

Ballantynes Fire Blurb

This term for P.B.L we have been learning about New Zealand history. We had to choose a event in New Zealand and write a blurb about it. This is mine: The Ballantynes Fire On the 18th of November 1947 one of the staff members saw smoke coming out of the stairwell then the fire broke out at 3:30. Unfortunately when they tried to call the brigade they did not log this call. The staff on the ground floor assumed the fire could be maintained so no evacuation happened. When staff came back they were told to get back to work without any sign about the fire. They only started evacuating the staff and customers once the smoke got more intense and became more dangerous. Sadly 41 people died and a pregnant staff member jumped to her death from the building. Source : NZ History Do You Know Anything About The Ballantynes Fire? If So What?

Term 1 Reflection

This term has been a great and fun term. My highlights of term 1 are: Tech Science Drama Art Banqer ............................................................................................................ Because all of them teach me stuff I didn't know and they do it in a fun way. Like in science I was learning about animal communication and I learnt that bees communicate through dancing and we got to act it out. ............................................................................................................ My low lights  for term 1 are: Honestly  I don't have any that's how good this term has been. ............................................................................................................ My goals for term 2 are... To be confident with speaking to a large group. To improve in my math (eg strategies.) Read at least 7 books in one term at home and/or School. How Has Your Term Been Going?

Bridle Path and Ferrymead Trip

Image
On Friday the Year 7 and 8s went to Ferrymead and walked the Bridle Path. First we got split up into two groups. One group walked the Bridle Path in the morning and the other group walked it in the afternoon. My group walked the Bridle Path in the morning and it wasn't as bad as I remembered. When we walked the Bridle Path we got split up into groups of four or five. This is a picture of me and my friend Ellen. When you get to the top all the groups had to walk to the Gondola and thankfully we got to ride the Gondola down. My group also got to go in the Time Tunnel and it was really cool. As soon as we got down we all got to eat and have a rest, then we were on our way to Ferrymead. In Ferrymead we did activities of what it was like in the 1950s like: we went into a bakery and baked scones. We got taught in a school that would have been in the 1950s, and lastly we got to play with toys that children played with in 1950s. It's so different between the 1950s and now bec

Diana Issac Trip

On Friday a group of 6 people went to Diana Issac, which is a rest home. Some of us got two people and some of us got one each. I got one person so it was easier to talk to them and ask more questions. Her name was Pam, she was very kind to me and answered every question I asked. She has done some awesome stuff like: she has published a book called  Stories For My Grandchildren. You should check it out here is a link to it: Stories For My Grandchildren . She went sky diving when she was 70, which is amazing and her grandpa was one of the first people to walk the Bridle Path. It was very fun there we got to share our stories to each other and ask a lot of questions. Have you ever published a book or been sky diving?

What We Do In Tech

This year I am starting technology. In tech the options are plastics, metal, cooking, fabrics, electronics and woodwork. My group is doing plastics and we have made a die.  In plastics we make all kinds of things. So far I have made a die and I am multi-tasking a lot because I am making a pencil holder, key chains and earbud holders.Tech is so much fun because I get to use machines that I haven't used before like: drills, sand blaster, saws, buffing machines and disc sander. Have you ever made objects in Tech?

My Treasurers

Image
Last week I did my presentation on my treasures what I find special to me. The mold in the frame is my hands a feet when I was 3 months old. This is special to me because it reminds me of how small I used to be. The chime that I am holding up is very special to because my Grandma gave it to me and she has sadly passed away. The xray that I am holding up is of my sister when she was in my mum's tummy and this is special to me because I love my sister a lot and if she wasn't born I wouldn't be named after her. What are your family treasures?
