New Zealand Book Awards

On Monday my class went to the New Zealand book awards it was held in Saint Margret school. My class got divied up into two groups. I went in the first group so the writers that I saw was Fleur Beale, Joanna Grochowicz, and Suzanne they explained what their books were about and how they came up with the idea. Two classmates from my class got one of their books signed by them.

    Did you enjoy listening to these author's talk Alexis? Why did you choose to listen to these authors over the other three? Which author did you enjoy hearing the most?

      Yes I did enjoy listening to them they were very good and gave a lot of detail about their books. I chose to listen to the three authors because I have read one of Suzanne's book and I wanted to know what her journey was when writing it. I enjoyed listening to Suzanne the most because, one I was most excited about hearing her and two she gave really great detail and explained the book very well but without giving to much spoilers.

      It is good to hear that the author that you went to see is the one that you enjoyed listening to the most. It is interesting for me to hear what these talks were like as I went to the second talk with different authors. My favourite was Alison Ballance who talked about sharks.

This week we got to draw a piece of paper out of a box and that would have a random country on it. With that country you had to do some research about it and write some instructions on a skill or game from that country. Next week we will be picking a type of food and making it then bringing it to school so there will be a whole assortment of food for everyone to try from all over the world but I will only be sharing my instructions maybe next week will be about the food. :) Here is my instructions on how to play Hul Gul: How to play Dutch Hul Gul Materials: *Buttons or any large quantity of small objects. *People to play with ( Any amount of people except by yourself) Gather buttons Give each player 10 buttons Each player places any amount of buttons up to 10 in their hand. Player 1 then holds out their hand face down with the buttons in hand so the other player(s) can’t see. Player 1 now asks another player (Player 2) how many buttons do I have in my hand.

Cross Country

Last week on Thursday my school had cross country. In my age group the year 8s had to run 3km and I came 5th which means I will be going to zones. At 9:00 am the whole school walked down to Walter park to start running, first was the year 8 boys and we finished with the year 6 girls. Everyone ran really well and tried their best I had a lot of fun running and cheering people on. After everyone was super tired and exhausted. Sports Rotations

For the last few weeks every Thursday we have been rotating between 4 sports in our home base's: Cricket, Lawn Bowls, Softball and Korfball. Korfball is a new sport to most of us in class and it is a bit like netball but with a few different rules during game. In Korfball instead the hoops were plastic and taller than the usual hoops. My home base has done all of them except Lawn Bowls and in our next rotation we will be doing that. Have you ever played Korfball before?
