Ballantynes Fire Blurb

This term for P.B.L we have been learning about New Zealand history. We had to choose a event in New Zealand and write a blurb about it. This is mine: The Ballantynes Fire On the 18th of November 1947 one of the staff members saw smoke coming out of the stairwell then the fire broke out at 3:30. Unfortunately when they tried to call the brigade they did not log this call. The staff on the ground floor assumed the fire could be maintained so no evacuation happened. When staff came back they were told to get back to work without any sign about the fire. They only started evacuating the staff and customers once the smoke got more intense and became more dangerous. Sadly 41 people died and a pregnant staff member jumped to her death from the building. Source : NZ History Do You Know Anything About The Ballantynes Fire? If So What?

Term 1 Reflection

This term has been a great and fun term. My highlights of term 1 are: Tech Science Drama Art Banqer ............................................................................................................ Because all of them teach me stuff I didn't know and they do it in a fun way. Like in science I was learning about animal communication and I learnt that bees communicate through dancing and we got to act it out. ............................................................................................................ My low lights  for term 1 are: Honestly  I don't have any that's how good this term has been. ............................................................................................................ My goals for term 2 are... To be confident with speaking to a large group. To improve in my math (eg strategies.) Read at least 7 books in one term at home and/or School. Bridle Path and Ferrymead Trip

Image
On Friday the Year 7 and 8s went to Ferrymead and walked the Bridle Path. First we got split up into two groups. One group walked the Bridle Path in the morning and the other group walked it in the afternoon. My group walked the Bridle Path in the morning and it wasn't as bad as I remembered. When we walked the Bridle Path we got split up into groups of four or five. This is a picture of me and my friend Ellen. When you get to the top all the groups had to walk to the Gondola and thankfully we got to ride the Gondola down. My group also got to go in the Time Tunnel and it was really cool. As soon as we got down we all got to eat and have a rest, then we were on our way to Ferrymead. In Ferrymead we did activities of what it was like in the 1950s like: we went into a bakery and baked scones. We got taught in a school that would have been in the 1950s, and lastly we got to play with toys that children played with in 1950s. It's so different between the 1950s and now bec

Diana Issac Trip

On Friday a group of 6 people went to Diana Issac, which is a rest home. Some of us got two people and some of us got one each. I got one person so it was easier to talk to them and ask more questions. Her name was Pam, she was very kind to me and answered every question I asked. She has done some awesome stuff like: she has published a book called  Stories For My Grandchildren. You should check it out here is a link to it: Stories For My Grandchildren . She went sky diving when she was 70, which is amazing and her grandpa was one of the first people to walk the Bridle Path. It was very fun there we got to share our stories to each other and ask a lot of questions. Have you ever published a book or been sky diving?
