Fair Chocolate

For the last few weeks our learning focus for writing has been to write an summary about a article. There was different articles like Fair Chocolate, Wild Boy, Paint The Town and more we got given the article depending on what workshop you signed yourselves up too. Here is my summary about Fair Chocolate.

Fair Chocolate

In Christchurch 1973 Ewan Cameron works at a fair trade company. He is part of a team that helps set up
the company's new chocolate factory and he helps with budgeting. The company has the same goal as any
other businesses to make money. Ewan does not work for profit so meaning the money they make goes to
the less fortunate like third world countries, homeless people or sick instead of the owners or shareholder
using the money for other uses.

This company care about the welfare of the people so this is why fair-trade companies when trading instead
of trying to find a bargain they pay the full price of their ingredients. Running a fair-trade company in
Wellington Matt Lamson said “Very high profits always come at the expense of someone else.”

Something customers need to be aware of is that it isn’t always good to get your product for the cheapest
price, just because it is cheap it doesn’t mean that it is good quality. Fair-trade companies know that if they
make the price too cheap then lots of people will buy it, but it might take slower to make money. If they
make the price too high then people might not buy it as much but when they do it won’t take too long so
that is why they have to choose the right price just in between.

All the fair-trade companies chocolate was made in Europe making it difficult for New Zealand until 2012.
They couldn’t keep up with the high demand of product so they decided to open a factory right here in
New Zealand. Ewan and his team did some research on buying factories and materials. Someone from the
team heard that there was a chocolate factory for sale in Sydney so that got them going. Since it was already
a chocolate factory that meant that it already had all the equipment that they need to make Chocolate. So
Ewan and a specialist engineer went to visit the factory and decided to take all the equipment and ship it
back to Christchurch.

Ewans team in working harder and harder as the opening day gets closer of course they are spending money
for it, but some cost have turned out higher than expected so Ewan is looking for other places to make more
money. When they open up and all the Chocolate is put on the shelves they are going to gain all the money
back from what they spent. As easy as that.

Have you ever heard of Fair Chocolate?
