In writing we have been working on different types of poems. Some examples of different poems are: Haiku, Limerick and Cinquain. For my poem I decided to do a Haiku poem. We watched different videos on what each poem is to get a good understanding of poems. We brainstormed some ideas on what the poem could be about and we all talked about what each poem presents. This week for reading we have been looking at some poems for one of them we had to comment on the poem and say what this makes you think of. This term we are writing an information report about a country. We got to choose what country to write about and I chose South Korea. First we had to make a plan we have to write 7 paragraphs and a conclusion. We then categorized where each information should go in terms of different paragraphs so it flows better with the help of our teachers. We then found a bunch of information and wrote it in a doc while doing this we had to remember to link where we got the information off so we can credit them at the end. Once we have finished our plan we would then start putting our information we found into structured paragraphs. This week's task is to create a type of food from the country you picked out of a hat. If you have read my other blog posts I have mentioned writing instructions on how to play a game from Netherlands. So here is my recipe I wrote on how to make Poffertjes Dutch Mini Pancakes. How To Make Mini Dutch Pancakes Poffertjes Poffertjes are mini pancakes made from Netherlands with Yeast being a key ingredient. They are cooked on both sides until golden brown. They are usually served with powdered sugar and butter on the side. This week we got to draw a piece of paper out of a box and that would have a random country on it. With that country you had to do some research about it and write some instructions on a skill or game from that country. Next week we will be picking a type of food and making it then bringing it to school so there will be a whole assortment of food for everyone to try from all over the world but I will only be sharing my instructions maybe next week will be about the food. :) Here is my instructions on how to play Hul Gul: How to play Dutch Hul Gul Materials: *Buttons or any large quantity of small objects. *People to play with ( Any amount of people except by yourself) Gather buttons Give each player 10 buttons Each player places any amount of buttons up to 10 in their hand. For the last two weeks we have been working on a narrative about the future. We had to pick an ethical issue that is currently going on in the world and theoretically fix it. My ethical problem is about pollution and how we might loose our beautiful world to this, so we should try and live healthier lives to preventing this. Last week for writing we were introduced to the next few weeks writing task. We have to write a narrative on the future and in the story it has to include an ethical problem that is currently happening in the world right now. First we brainstormed some ideas on what our story could be about. For the last few weeks our learning focus for writing has been to write an summary about a article. There was different articles like Fair Chocolate, Wild Boy, Paint The Town and more we got given the article depending on what workshop you signed yourselves up too. Here is my summary about Fair Chocolate. Fair Chocolate In Christchurch 1973 Ewan Cameron works at a fair trade company. He is part of a team that helps set up the company's new chocolate factory and he helps with budgeting. The company has the same goal as any other businesses to make money. Ewan does not work for profit so meaning the money they make goes to the less fortunate like third world countries, homeless people or sick instead of the owners or shareholder using the money for other uses. This company care about the welfare of the people so this is why fair-trade companies when trading instead of trying to find a bargain they pay the full price of their ingredients. We got to choose who it was on and write about how they are a great person her is my bio on Mahatma Gandhi: Mahatma Gandhi Early Life Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on the 2nd of October 1869. He grew up being the youngest of his fathers fourth wife. His mother devoted her life to religion  dividing her time between her home and the temple. She did not care much about jewellery or the fancy lifestyle but devoted her life to the temple instead. As he started his education he took an interest to the classics of Hindu literature and he started to study the teaching of Jesus Christ. He started his career as a lawyer and became popular while he was fighting against racial discrimination in South Africa. Hi, guys welcome back. Lately, I have been working on my digital project which is writing a story and presenting it. We also had to write a blurb about what story we chose. Our stories have been based on N.Z. history going from pre 1840s-Now. My story that I have chosen was the Ballantyne's Fire. I have used sketch noting which is where you sketch doodles of your story and take a picture then add it to a slide or doc. Reading Challenge This year at St Francis of Assisi school we a participating in a reading challenge run by the New Zealand Book Awards, the Hell's Pizza Reading Challenge.  For every 7 books you read you will get a free kids pizza from Hell’s Pizza. We have until December to read the books and get as many pizzas as we can. For the Year 7 & 8s every time we read a book we have to write a book review about the book then get the pizza wheel signed by the teacher. Have you ever done the Hell's Pizza Reading Challenge?

This term for P.B.L we have been learning about New Zealand history. We had to choose a event in New Zealand and write a blurb about it. This is mine: The Ballantynes Fire On the 18th of November 1947 one of the staff members saw smoke coming out of the stairwell then the fire broke out at 3:30. Unfortunately when they tried to call the brigade they did not log this call. The staff on the ground floor assumed the fire could be maintained so no evacuation happened. When staff came back they were told to get back to work without any sign about the fire.They only started evacuating the staff and customers once the smoke got more intense and became more dangerous.
